Post-traumatic osteoarthritis (PTOA) develops following traumatic articular insult.1 One model system used to study the progression and treatment of PTOA is destabilization medial meniscus (DMM) as first described by Glasson et al performed in mini-pigs.2–7Miniature-pigs are less available, more expensive have synovial fluid sampling limitations, limiting availability OA biomarkers compared domestic pigs.11 The Technical Note details stepwise procedures animal welfare strategies perform a pre-operative saphenous nerve block, DMM, subsequent postoperative management Yorkshire pigs large model.
